Unprecedented Performance of Moroccan Candidacies in 2023 Reflects Credibility Enjoyed by HM the King’s Very High Vision for United, Pragmatic and Active Multilateralism
The Kingdom of Morocco achieved, in 2023, a 100% success rate in its candidacies for vacant positions in international and regional organizations. This exemplary record, which is part of an unprecedented dynamic of Moroccan candidacies, testifies to the respect, credibility and confidence inspired by the High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, for a united and pragmatic multilateralism within the international community, in the context of major global challenges. In 2023, the Kingdom of Morocco consolidated its presence within international and regional organizations, with 46 Moroccan candidacies successfully standing for election to the various vacant positions within these organizations, following intense electoral campaigns conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates. The Kingdom’s electoral successes are part of a proactive, rational and results-oriented approach to the management of Moroccan candidacies, which meets the priorities of Moroccan diplomacy as defined by the High Orientations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, stresses a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates. The diversity of positions Morocco has held throughout 2023, in 30 different international and regional organizations, reflects the confidence the international community has in its expertise, experience and skills, adds the same source. At the political level, Morocco has held key positions within the UN and other international organizations, including that of Vice-President of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. Morocco has also held important positions of responsibility within the regional organizations to which it belongs, in particular the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Francophonie. In the field of disarmament, the Kingdom was reappointed to head decision-making bodies linked to the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism and the Nuclear Disarmament Environment Initiative (CEND). In the field of human rights, the press release notes, the Kingdom was able to accede for the first time to the position of member of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), while securing its re-election to the Committee on Migrant Workers’ Rights (CMW) and to the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council. In areas relating to economic development, the Kingdom has been elected to the executive boards of several specialized organizations, including the International Maritime Organization, the World Food Program and UN Habitat. It has also been elected to numerous consultative bodies within the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). In the cultural sphere, Morocco has been appointed to several advisory bodies of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). On the social front, the press release notes, the Kingdom has been elected to several positions on the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, and the International Narcotics Control Board. In the field of sports, the Kingdom has been elected to positions of responsibility within several international and regional sports bodies, particularly in Africa. In line with the High Royal Directions, set out in the Royal Message to the First Conference of Ambassadors of His Majesty the King, to enhance national diplomatic performance and the status of the Kingdom as an active, responsible player within the international community, Moroccan diplomacy will remain fully committed to the dynamic of reinforcing Morocco’s presence in the multilateral system, the press release stresses. The Moroccan diplomatic apparatus, in coordination with the Departments concerned, will remain mobilized to promote Morocco’s action in favor of strengthening multilateralism in order to face major global challenges, through the optimal deployment of Moroccan skills within international and regional organizations.
