Paris – The second International Nuclear Energy Summit, organized at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron in partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), kicked off on Tuesday in Paris with the participation of Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, representing His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The Moroccan delegation to the summit includes Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, Director General of the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR) Saïd Mouline, and His Majesty the King’s Ambassador to Paris Samira Sitail. This high-level meeting, organized following a first edition held in Brussels in March 2024, brings together heads of State and government, leaders of international organizations, financial institutions, industrialists, and experts to discuss the role of civil nuclear power in addressing global energy and climate challenges. Held against a backdrop of increasing electricity demand and accelerating decarbonization strategies, this summit aims to establish itself as a benchmark political framework for the development of civil nuclear power, complementing IAEA’s technical fora and ahead of several international due dates scheduled for 2026, including the review conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. According to the organizers, the summit is an opportunity to reaffirm the role of nuclear power in energy security, the transition to low-carbon electricity, and industrial development. Beyond political and technical discussions, the summit aims to encourage the emergence of concrete initiatives and partnerships between states, international organizations, financial institutions, and industrial players in order to promote a safe, sustainable development of civil nuclear power, in line with global climate objectives.
