Western Sahara : Bad news for the Polisario !
The Polisario leadership has issued a full alert for its representatives at the UN after bad news infuriated Mohamed Abdelaziz.
Actually, the Republic of Haiti has officially announced the withdrawal of its recognition of the ghostly Sahrawi republic “SADR”.
Morocco has thus won a valuable point in its diplomatic battle with the separatist front which is unconditionally supported by Algerian authorities.
In a statement released last Thursday, the Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the decision “is meant to foster the settlement process of the issue by the UN Security Council and to support the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his personal envoy seeking to reach a political, lasting and mutually acceptable solution.”
The Haitian government “encourages the parties to continue negotiations in good faith to preserve the momentum triggered by the Moroccan proposal to grant large autonomy to the Sahara and to reach a solution based on realism and a spirit of compromise, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.”
In another development, Sao Tome and Principe appealed the same day for a political solution to the “regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara,” and reiterated its support for the Security Council’s repeated calls for the identification of the Tindouf camps populations.
The Ambassador of Sao Tome and Principe, Carlos Filomeno Azevedo Agostinho, who was speaking before the UN 4th Commission in New York, recalled that the UN Security Council has described, “in eight successive resolutions, Morocco’s efforts, as translated by the autonomy plan, as serious and credible.”
The diplomat also called on the conflicting parties to engage in negotiations and to show a spirit of realism and compromise to move towards a final negotiated political solution of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.”
As soon as he heard of the bad news, the Polisario chief Mohamed Abdelaziz got mad at his representative in New York and asked him for clarifications about these Polisario setbacks.
