Jordanian Newspaper Highlights HM the King’s Call for Normalizing Ties with Algeria

Jordanian newspaper Addustour stressed, Monday, that His Majesty King Mohammed VI renewed, in His speech on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the Throne Day, His call for the normalization of diplomatic relations broken with neighboring Algeria. “We aspire to work with the Algerian presidency so that Morocco and Algeria can work, hand in hand, to establish normal relations between two brotherly peoples, united by history, human ties and the community of destiny,” the daily said, quoting the Royal speech. It added that the Sovereign noted that “the borders that separate the Moroccan people and the Algerian people brothers will never be barriers preventing their interaction and understanding. Our wish is that these borders become bridges allowing Morocco and Algeria to reach a better future and to offer a beautiful example of harmony to the other Maghrebian peoples”. HM the King also assured the Moroccan people of His firm will “to find a way out of the current situation and to promote rapprochement, communication and understanding between the two peoples,” the media reported. It also recalled that His Majesty King Mohammed VI had called, on the occasion of the Speech from the Throne last year, the Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to “prevail wisdom” and work for the development of relations between the two neighboring countries. The publication noted, in addition, that the Sovereign had proposed, in late 2018, the formation of a “joint political mechanism for dialogue” to overcome existing differences between the two countries, calling for the opening of land borders closed since 1994, but without obtaining a response.
